#045. Something Slight
Since ya'll dabbling in the MM Romance genre...
Criminal Intentions Series by Cole McCade x Kindle Unlimited | ★★★★
The word is following, catching up to what many of the bookish girls have long been savoring as our guilty pleasure: male x male romances. With the release of Heated Rivalry, folks are tapping in for better or worse, but I’ve been here for a while, so let me put you on to this Kindled Unlimited series also in audiobook on Audible. Criminal Intentions is written in two series, with a total of 29 books (yes, 29 books). I am current on Episode 7 of Season 1, which consists of 13 episodes. This series focuses on two detectives in the Baltimore Police Department Homicide Unit. They are solving a new crime in every episode while slowly falling in love. It is the slowest of slow burns. The banter is playful and flirty, the sexual tension high and frustrating. But the ferocity of the two as lover is well worth the wait. This series is great for my forensic, crime-junkie girls, who like men, only when they like other men, and enjoy some adult spice in the midst of crime-solving. Add that it is an ongoing story, building with every book, and you are in for a consistent and pleasurable reading or listening session.
Wicked Games by Willow Dixon x Kindle Unlimited | ★★★
More for the MLM bookish genre. Admittedly, this is probably a two-star read, but the spice and addition of mafia undertones pushed it to a three. Sometimes the plot is the porn in these MLM books, and you just have to take it for what it is. Other positives of this read are the likability of the characters, including the side characters. They are quirky, maniacal, loyal, and unbothered. All traits I love in people in real life, if I actually choose to be around them. The story centers on an enemies-to-lovers plot line, which is always a good time, but the author added the “step-brother” context, which doesn’t quite tickle my fancy. Nevertheless, this book has drugs, murder, scheming, and spice. So if you like that kind of thing, go for it!
His Secret Omega by Chani Lynn Feener x Kindle Unlimited | ★★
You can’t win them all. Usually, I can pick out a good book, but this one, however, wasn’t one of my better selections. An ABO (Alpha/Beta/Omega for the newbies and uninformed) MLM dark romance. It started off with triggering events and never really recovered. There were a handful of moments that were acceptable, but as a whole, this one never quite came together for me. I finished it though so that is why the second star.
My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s x Crunchyroll | ★★★☆
I’m back on my anime zoom and watched this one-season quick hit. This isekai gave me hints of Berserk of Gluttony, which I also enjoyed. Our main character is reasonably overpowered and constantly leveling up. He is more of an anti-hero with a morally gray story, and those are always my favorite because really, who’s all good or evil? The visuals are clean, the intro and outro are catchy, and the character development along the way definitely keeps the curiosity piqued. If you’re looking for a simple and quick watch, this one should be good company.
